Welcome to Phono Referentia, my ongoing exploration of analog playback and transcription—the process of capturing an analog recording in digital form.
This is where I share the records, equipment, listening, and measurements behind the work, and document how the system develops over time.
A transcription begins with a physical recording and the system used to play it. The turntable, cartridge, setup, and recording path all contribute to the result.
Phono Referentia follows that process openly: what I’m using, what I’m changing, and what I hear along the way. My aim is to build a carefully documented reference practice through listening, measurement, and experience.
Here, “reference” describes the standard I’m working toward and the baseline I use to compare changes.
